Blue Jays’ Varsho exits vs. Diamondbacks with left knee discomfort

Published:

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Daulton Varsho exited Friday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks in the third inning with left knee discomfort, the team announced.

Varsho was replaced defensively in centerfield by Myles Straw in the bottom of the inning.

The 29-year-old had one at-bat in the game and was called out on strikes.

Varsho has appeared in 19 games this season and has posted a .262 average with three homers and seven RBIs.

The Wisconsin native is in his fourth season with the Blue Jays and has also appeared for the Diamondbacks over the course of his 667-game MLB career.

The Blue Jays have dealt with a long list of injuries in the early part of the 2026 season.

Outfielder George Springer was placed on the 10-day IL last weekend with a fracture in his left big toe, joining outfielder Addison Barger and catcher Alejandro Kirk who are also out of the lineup with injuries.

They are also missing pitchers José Berrios and Trey Yesavage who are both on the 15 day IL, but are working their way back to the lineup on rehab stints in the minors.

Shane Bieber, Anthony Santander, Cody Ponce and Anthony Santander are all currently on the 60-day IL.
