Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Trey Yesavage left his team’s game in the third inning on Tuesday with left-knee discomfort, the team confirmed.
The injury occurred while Yesavage was warming up to pitch in the bottom of the third. After throwing a warmup pitch his left knee appeared laboured, leading the Blue Jays to take him out of the game.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider told reporters after the game that Yesavage felt a pinching sensation in his left knee and couldn’t stabilize properly. He is scheduled to have an MRI on Wednesday, according to Keegan Matheson of MLB.com.
Yesavage pitched two innings with a walk prior to his exit with the Blue Jays and Houston Astros in a scoreless draw. Toronto went on to lose 7-2 on Tuesday night,
The 6-foot-4 rookie right-handed pitcher has a 5-5 record this season with a 3.73 earned-run average with 91 strikeouts in 91.2 innings pitched.
Chad Dallas came into the game in relief of Yesavage.
Toronto is looking for their sixth win in its last eight games and a third consecutive series win after taking two of three from both the Washington Nationals and St. Louis Cardinals last week.
The Blue Jays entered Tuesday’s action sitting in last place in the American League East with a 53-6 record and four games out of the final wild-card spot in the American League.
