Canadian Michael Soroka appears ready to make his return.
Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo told an Arizona sports radio station Friday that Soroka it looks “very strongly” Soroka will make his return Monday at home against the Colorado Rockies.
The Calgary native has been out with a glute strain since June 19. D-Backs lefty Kohl Drake, who had been filling a spot in the team’s rotation the last few weeks, was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Friday, leaving a hole in Arizona’s starting five.
Soroka has pitched well in 15 starts this season. He owns a 3.07 ERA with a WHIP of 1.08 and 79 strikeouts in 82.0 innings pitched. He was also pacing for a career-best strikeout to walk ratio (4.65) at the time of the injury. Soroka also made two starts for Canada earlier this year at the World Baseball Classic.
The 29-year-old signed with the Diamondbacks this past off-season and is due $7.5 million in 2026. He has a $10 million mutual option for next season.
Soroka and the Diamondbacks enter play Sunday at 62-55 and currently have a half-game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies for the National League’s second wild-card spot.
