Jameson Taillon’s time with the Chicago Cubs is at an end.
The team designated the veteran righty for assignment on Monday.
Taillon, 34, was in his fourth season with the team and the final year of a four-year, $68 million agreement.
He started Sunday’s 8-7 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Lakeland, FL native gave up seven earned runs on six hits in four innings of work. For the season, Taillon was 2-6 in 15 starts with an earned run average of 5.92 and a 1.355 WHIP over 76.0 innings pitched.
Originally taken with the second overall selection of the 2010 MLB Amateur Draft by the Pirates, Taillon is in his 10th big league season. He previously suited up for the Bucs and New York Yankees.
For his career, Taillon is 84-66 with a 3.99 ERA and 1.203 WHIP in 1,313.0 IP over 239 appearances. He has 1,141 strikeouts to 321 walks.
Internationally, Taillon has represented Canada at two World Baseball Classics, eligible to play through his Canadian-born parents.
In a corresponding move, the Cubs recalled righty Andrew Wantz, who was signed last month after his release from the Tampa Bay Rays.
