Cade Horton’s sophomore season is over.

Chicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell announced on Tuesday that the righty is set to undergo elbow surgery and miss the rest of the season.

Horton, 24, exited his Apr. 3 start against the Cleveland Guardians after only one inning and was placed on the 15-day injured list with a forearm strain. Horton met with surgeon Dr. Keith Meister earlier on Tuesday and underwent an MRI.

A native of Oklahoma City, Horton was the seventh overall selection of the 2022 MLB Amateur Draft out of Oklahoma.

He made 22 starts in 2025, going 11-4 with an earned run average of 2.67 and WHIP of 1.085 over 118.0 innings of work. Horton finished as runner-up for the National League Rookie of the Year to Atlanta Braves catcher Drake Baldwin.
