Dodgers to give away bobblehead of Pages’ World Series Game 7 catch against Jays

Published:

The Los Angeles Dodgers are giving away a bobblehead featuring one of the most pivotal moments from last year’s World Series Game 7.

For the Toronto Blue Jays, painful is a more accurate description.

On Sept. 6 against the Washington Nationals, fans attending will receive a bobblehead of Andy Pages’ ninth-inning catch over teammate Kike Hernandez that sent Game 7 to extra innings and ultimately led to the Dodgers’ second straight World Series title.

The souvenir titled “The Catch” features Pages extending to make the grab with Hernandez behind him, mimicking the one of the most iconic plays in team history.

With Game 7 tied 4-4 in the ninth inning with two outs and Ernie Clement at the plate facing Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Clement drove a curveball deep into left centre field that made both Pages and Hernandez retreat toward the warning track. Pages then jumped up into an off-balance Hernandez to make the catch and rob Clement of a World Series walk-off and the Blue Jays of their first title in 32 years.

Hernandez said he initially thought the ball had dropped and the game was over, only to realize seconds later that Pages had caught it and sent things to extras.

The Dodgers would later win in 11 innings after Will Smith hit a go-ahead home run in the top of the inning and Yamamoto slammed the door on the Jays in the bottom half.

The Pages bobblehead is one of several souvenirs given away by the Dodgers celebrating last fall’s title, including a Smith bobblehead of his go-ahead 11th-inning home run, a Miguel Rojas bobblehead commemorating his game-tying ninth-inning home run and a bobblehead of Yamamoto celebrating the last out of the World Series.

The Dodgers are also scheduled to hand out replica World Series rings to fans attending against the Seattle Mariners on July 28 at Dodger Stadium.
