The Toronto Blue Jays will start left-hander Mason Fluharty Saturday afternoon in Chicago against the White Sox, it was announced Friday evening.

Left-hander Eric Lauer was originally scheduled to start, but was feeling under the weather on Friday and Toronto pushed him back to Sunday to give him an extra day to recover.

Fluharty has allowed two earned runs in 1.2 innings this season spread out over four appearances. However, he has turned in three straight scoreless outings.

The 24-year-old had a 4.44 ERA in 55 games last season for Toronto during the regular season and turned in a 5.68 ERA in 11 playoff appearances.

The move to start Fluharty comes with the Blue Jays’ starting staff severely short-handed as Cody Ponce, Trey Yesavage, Shane Bieber and Jose Berrios all occupy spots on the injured list. Toronto signed veteran left-hander Patrick Corbin to a one-year deal on Friday to help provide depth.

Meanwhile, the White Sox will start right-hander Grant Taylor again on Saturday, according to Scott Merkin of MLB.com. He served as opener on Friday, holding the Jays hitless in the top of the first.

The Blue Jays sit at 4-3 on the season through seven games.
