Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Addison Barger and starting pitcher Max Scherzer remain without timetables for their return.
Barger has yet to resume activities as he continues to deal with elbow and back injuries. MLB.com’s Keegan Matheson reports that Barger would need several weeks of buildup before his return, as the outfielder has played just nine games in 2026.
Scherzer received three injections in his right thumb over the All-Star break in what manager John Schneider described as a “pause” on the veteran starter’s rehab, rather than a step back.
Barger, 26, was hitting .045 in 22 at-bats before being shelved with a back injury on April 5. He returned for one game on May 9 before heading the injured list once again with an elbow issue.
The slugger hit 21 home runs and drove in 74 RBI in 135 games last season, adding three homers and nine RBI in a breakout postseason in which he slashed .367/.441/.1.025.
Scherzer last pitched for the Blue Jays on June 10, when he allowed five earned runs over 3.1 innings. The 41-year-old made a rehab start with the High-A Vancouver Canadians on July 3, throwing 49 pitches - 33 for strikes - while allowing three hits, two walks, two earned runs and striking out three.
The three-time Cy Young winner carries a 10.23 earned run average and a 1.73 WHIP in 22.0 innings with the Blue Jays this season.
