Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Shane Bieber is still throwing at 120 feet as he continues to battle arm fatigue, manager John Schneider said Saturday morning via MLB.com’s Keegan Matheson.
Matheson points out it seems like all is still going to plan for Bieber, but it’s hard to develop a timeline until he throws a bullpen session, which he has no imminent plan for.

Seems like everything is still going according to their plan, but it's difficult to chart out any sort of timeline until the first time Bieber throws a real bullpen session. #BlueJays
Bieber is off to a slow start this spring following his return from Tommy John Surgery toward the end of last season. The Jays announced at the beginning of camp that he would not be ready to open 2026 in the rotation.
“You want to know, and you want to have a date in mind, but they do a good job of trying to keep me week to week,” Bieber said earlier this month. “Ultimately, I’m just going to bed every night feeling happy that I feel good within my progression. We’re going to take it slow and be smart.
“It’s not about how you start, it’s about how you finish, and we definitely know that, judging off the last year. I know this group’s hungry. I’m extremely hungry, and I can’t wait to get back there.”
The Jays acquired Bieber from the Cleveland Guardians just before the trade deadline during the tail end of the former Cy Young Award winner’s Tommy John recovery. He made his debut with the Jays on Aug. 22 and turned in a 3.57 ERA in seven starts down the stretch of the regular season.
He made an additional five starts in the postseason, including two in the World Series as the Jays fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers in seven games.
The 30-year-old is a two-time All-Star and has a career 3.24 ERA in eight MLB seasons. He also won the pitching triple crown in addition to the Cy Young Award in 2020.
