Toronto Blue Jays starter Shane Bieber was not able to escape the first inning of Tuesday’s start against the Washington Nationals after issuing six walks and surrendering four runs.
Bieber walked James Wood to begin his nightmare first inning and things did not improve for the rest of his short outing.
After loading the bases on another walk and a single, Bieber threw four straight balls to Keibert Ruiz to force home the Nationals’ first run.
Daylen Lile and Jacob Young would also earn bases-loaded walks from the Blue Jays’ starter with a Nasim Nuñez sacrifice fly responsible for the other run.
Bieber would give way to reliever Brendon Little after walking six hitters and recording just two outs.
The 31-year-old threw 42 pitches with 15 strikes.
The California native has appeared in seven games this season for the Blue Jays and has a 2-1 record with a 5.74 ERA and 22 strikeouts.
Tuesday’s game was delayed by just over an hour due to inclement weather.
