The New York Mets are bringing up Canadian pitcher Jonah Tong, it was announced Friday afternoon.

Reliever Craig Kimbrel has been designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

A native of Markham, Ont., Tong made his MLB debut last August and started five games for the Mets down the stretch of the season.

He showed potential with 22 strikeouts in 18.2 innings, but ultimately struggled with a 7.71 ERA and 24 hits allowed alongside nine walks.

He has a 5.68 ERA in nine games at Triple-A Syracuse this season but has 55 strikeouts in 38.0 innings pitched.

Drafted by the Mets in the seventh round of the 2022 draft out of Bill Crothers Secondary School in Markham, the 22-year-old was the 44th-ranked prospect coming into 2026 by Baseball America.

Kimbrel, 37, has a 6.00 ERA in 14 outings so far this season. The 17-year veteran has 440 career saves, ranking him fifth all-time.
