The New York Mets placed Kodai Senga on the injured list on Tuesday with lumbar spine inflammation, the team announced.

The 33-year-old righty’s designation is retroactive to Monday.

Righty Christian Scott has been recalled from Triple-A Syracuse in a corresponding move.

A native of Gamagori, Japan, Senga has had a rough start to 2026. In five starts, Senga is 0-4 with an earned run average of 9.00 and a 1.950 WHIP over 20.0 innings pitched. He’s struck out 23 batters and walked 13. In his most recent start on Sunday, Senga last just 2.2 innings in a 3-0 loss to the Colorado Rockies.

The Mets (9-19) are off to the team’s worst start since 1983 and are stuck in the National League East Basement alongside the Philadelphia Phillies, who fired manager Rob Thomson on Tuesday. The Mets open a three-game set with the Washington Nationals (13-16) at Citi Field later on Tuesday.
