The Washington Nationals inked their top starter to a new deal on Friday.
The team announced a four-year extension for Cade Cavalli.
The deal comes with a club option for 2031.
Cavalli, 28, has enjoyed a breakout 2026, his third campaign in the majors. In 31 starts, Cavalli is 12-5 with a 3.12 earned run average and WHIP of 1.166 in 164.2 innings pitched. He has struck out 194 batters and walked 48. Cavalli has a career-high 3.4 WAR.
A native of Tulsa, OK, Cavalli was originally selected with the 22nd overall pick of the 2017 MLB Amateur Draft.
He missed the entirety of the 2023 season and virtually all of 2024 recovering from Tommy John surgery.
Cavalli was set to become arbitration-eligible in 2027. With the option in 2031, the new deal could potentially buy up his first year of unrestricted free agency.
