ST. LOUIS (AP) — The Baltimore Orioles placed right fielder Tyler O'Neill on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with right shoulder inflammation after he was hurt making a diving catch Saturday against the Rays.
The move is retroactive to Sunday. O'Neill told reporters he strained his rotator cuff and had a scan Tuesday.
“I've been dealing with that, trying to work through it, trying to swing through it,” he said. “Just nothing really manageable right now. ... I'm really disappointed. All I do is try and go out and play a hard game every single day and give it my best effort and this is unfortunately the result of playing hard sometimes.”
He is batting .212 with 10 home runs and 23 RBIs over 85 games this season.
The Orioles selected the contract of infielder Luis Vázquez from Triple-A Norfolk to fill the roster spot.
