Pittsburgh Pirates first baseman Ryan O’Hearn had one of the best offensive games in MLB history Tuesday night when he drove in 10 runs in a 12-4 victory over the Atlanta Braves.
O’Hearn drove in all of the runs off three homers in his first three at-bats before adding a single in the 8th inning.
O’Hearn’s achievement finished two RBIs shy of tying the all-time MLB single-game record shared by Mark Whiten from 1993 and Jim Bottomley from 1924. O’Hearn also broke the Pirates’ single-game record for RBI in a game, passing Johnny Rizzo’s nine driven in from 1939.
It’s the first 10-RBI game in the majors since Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani drove in 10 runs against the Miami Marlins in September of 2024.
O’Hearn came to plate in the eighth inning with a runner on first and a chance to match the single-game MLB home run and RBI record with Braves infielder Jorge Mateo on the mound, but he singled through the right side. He was lifted for a pinch runner and received a standing ovation from the crowd at PNC Park for his record-setting night.
The 32-year-old came into Tuesday’s game slashing .284/.344/.463 with 13 home runs and 51 RBI. This is his first season in Pittsburgh after previous stints with the Kansas City Royals, Baltimore Orioles and San Diego Padres.
The Pirates and Braves will continue their three-game series Wednesday evening.
