The Athletics have made a change in the front office.
The team confirmed the departure of general manager David Forst on Friday.
“David has been an integral part of the A’s and our success for nearly three decades,” A’s John Fisher said in a statement. “His leadership, dedication, and commitment to this team have helped shape our baseball operations department and position us for the future. We are grateful for everything David has done for our organization.”
The A’s currently sit at 45-70 and in fourth place in the American League West. Now in its second season outside of Oakland ahead of a move to Las Vegas, the A’s are set to miss the playoffs for a sixth consecutive season following a stretch of three straight playoff appearances from 2018 to 2020. The A’s last appeared in the American League Championship Series in 2006 and last reached the World Series in 1990.
Forst, 50, had been with the team since 2000 and served as GM for the past 11 seasons.
“It was truly an honor to spend the last 27 years with the A’s, especially the last 11 as the GM,” Forst said in a statement. “This organization is full of incredibly talented, devoted, and good people, and I am lucky to have worked alongside them for so long.”
A polarizing figure amongst A’s fans, Forst has jettisoned a number of top players in trades over his tenure including Mason Miller, Matt Olson, Matt Chapman, Sean Murphy, Sean Manaea and Chris Bassitt.
