Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider released injury updates for a couple of key contributors on Friday, including a positive update for Addison Barger and updates on two starting pitchers.
The 26-year-old Barger, who has been out since Apr. 5 with inflammation in both ankles, is expected to be activated ahead of Saturday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels.
Barger homered twice in three games at Single-A Dunedin earlier in the week.
Prior to the injury that put him on the IL, Barger struggled out of the gate with a .053 average, a .279 OPS and two RBIs in eight games to open the season.
Meanwhile, right-handed pitcher Jose Berrios is scheduled to meet with Dr. Keith Meister on Tuesday to discuss ongoing concerns with his pitching elbow.
Berrios has not played this season after a stress fracture was discovered in his right elbow in Spring Training, and MLB.com’s Keegan Matheson reports that a recent MRI showed some inflammation and “small changes to that initial injury” of a stress fracture.

The 32-year-old Berrios has made four rehab starts in the minors, and has a 10.67 earned-run average over 14.1 innings split between Single-A Dunedin and Triple-A Buffalo.
Dr. Meister is one of the most trusted surgeons in Major League Baseball, with a reputation as an elbow specialist.
Veteran starter Max Scherzer reportedly received a cortisone shot in his forearm on Thursday, and he has been shut down from throwing for five days.
Scherzer was placed on the IL with forearm tendinitis in his pitching arm and left ankle inflammation on Apr. 27.
Additionally, catcher Alejandro Kirk has started taking dry swings as he continues to work back from a fractured thumb suffered in the opening week of the season. The initial recovery timeline given was four-to-six weeks, with the injury having occurred five weeks ago at this point.
The Blue Jays open their weekend series against the Angels riding a four-game losing streak, sitting fourth in the American League East division at 16-21.
