“There may be some ligament stuff going on. They’re going to figure that out when they’re in there.” #BlueJays
Berrios, 31, has not played at the big-league level this season as he continues to deal with a stress fracture in his pitching elbow suffered early in Spring Training in February.
As Matheson reports, Blue Jays manager John Schneider said that the surgery will address the fracture and potential loose bodies around the elbow, but that there may also be ligament problems to address during the surgery.
“There may be some ligament stuff going on,” Schneider said before Saturday’s game against the Detroit Tigers. “They’re going to figure that out when they’re in there.”
There has been no recovery timeline established as of now - that will likely depend on whether there is any work to be done on his ligaments.
Berrios was the opening-day starter for the Blue Jays in 2022, 2024 and 2025, but struggled during the back end of the 2025 season.
The Blue Jays enter action on Saturday ranked fourth in the American League East at 19-25.
