The Toronto Blue Jays are promoting No. 1 prospect JoJo Parker to High-A Vancouver, according to Keegan Matheson of MLB.com.
As Matheson points out, the Blue Jays have been extremely high on the 20-year-old shortstop, who was their first-round pick in last year’s MLB Draft out of high school in Mississippi.
Parker turned 20 on Saturday and is enjoying an impressive first professional season at the plate. According to MLB.com, Parker is the No. 27-ranked prospect across baseball.
In 87 games so far this season for Class-A Dunedin, Parker is slashing .259/.389/.471 with 13 home runs and 66 RBI. He also has 22 stolen bases.
Parker has been particularly strong of late and collected a total of five hits, including a home run and two doubles, in a doubleheader on Friday. Since June 9, Parker is slashing .293/.403/.587 with nine home runs and 41 RBI.
Parker’s promotion comes less than a week after Toronto traded shortstop Arjun Nimmala, their No. 2 prospect, to the Los Angeles Angels as park of a package for starter Jose Soriano. Nimmala is considered the 43rd-ranked prospect across MLB.
