The Arizona Diamondbacks are signing Canadian pitcher Michael Soroka to a one-year contract, according to ESPN’s Jesse Rogers and Jeff Passan.

The deal is pending a physical.

MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand and Steve Gilbert report Soroka will be paid $7.5 million with incentives that can bring it to as high as $9.5 million.

The 28-year-old Calgary native split last season between the Washington Nationals and Chicago Cubs, going from the Nats to the Cubs at the trade deadline in exchange for two prospects.

Soroka started 16 games with the Nationals and had a 4.87 ERA. He then suffered a shoulder strain in his first outing with the Cubs on Aug. 4 and missed just under a month. When he returned, he pitched in five games out of the bullpen and turned in a 1.08 ERA overall in six games with Chicago down the stretch of the regular season.

Soroka began his career with the Atlanta Braves in 2018 and was dominant in 2019, making the All-Star team and finishing sixth in Cy Young voting with a 2.68 ERA. However, Soroka incurred back-to-back Achilles tendon tears which kept him off the mound for most of 2020 and all of 2021 and 2022. He returned with the Braves in 2023 and spent 2024 with the Chicago White Sox.

Soroka has a 3.85 ERA in six MLB seasons with 69 of his 91 appearances coming as starts.
