The Seattle Mariners have their man.
Jason Kanzler was named the club’s new manager on Tuesday.
Kanzler, 36, had been serving as the head of the Chicago Cubs’ farm system. He previously spent time in the Houston Astros organization.
“Throughout the process, Jason consistently demonstrated elite leadership skills, high-end content and an ability to connect and partner with players, staff and front office,” general manager Justin Hollander said in a statement. “We all believe Jason is the right person to lead our organization back to the postseason.”
A native of Penfield, NY, Kanzler attended Buffalo and was a 20th-round pick of the Minnesota Twins in the 2013 MLB Amateur Draft. His professional playing career lasted three seasons. He topped out in 2015 in High-A Ball with the Fort Myers Twins.
Kanzler becomes the 22nd manager in franchise history and succeeds Dan Wilson, who was let go after three seasons following a 76-86 campaign. The Mariners missed the playoffs for the third time in four seasons. In 2025, the team came within one game of its first-ever World Series berth before blowing a 3-2 series lead to the Toronto Blue Jays in the American League Championship Series.
