The San Diego Padres are finalizing a trade to acquire LHP Robbie Ray from the San Francisco Giants, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
The return is for prospects Miguel Mendez and Joniel Hernandez per The Athletic’s Dennis Lin.
Ray, 34, appeared in 22 games for the Giants this season, going 10-6 with an ERA of 3.08 and a WHIP of 1.288.
A 12th-round pick by the Washington Nationals in 2010, Ray has spent 13 years in the majors, suiting up for the Detroit Tigers, Arizona Diamondbacks, Toronto Blue Jays, Seattle Mariners and Giants.
As a member of the Blue Jays, Ray captured the American League Cy Young Award in 2021 after leading the MLB in strikeouts (248) and the AL in ERA (2.84).
