Newly acquired pitcher José Soriano has reported to the Toronto Blue Jays and has been activated ahead of Tuesday’s game against the Houston Astros, the team announced.
Reliever Lazaro Estrada has been optioned to Triple-A Buffalo to make room on the roster.
The Blue Jays picked up Soriano in a deadline day trade with the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for infielder Arjun Nimmala, outfielder Eddie Micheletti Jr., and pitcher Angel Rivero.
The 27-year-old made 22 starts for the Angels this season prior to the deal and posted a 9-6 record with a 3.29 ERA and 127 strikeouts in 123.0 innings.
The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native is in his fourth MLB season, all spent with the Angels, and has a 26-27 career record with a 3.72 ERA.
He was signed as an international free agent by the Angels in 2016.
Estrada has pitched in four games this season for the Jays and has a 0-0 record with a 4.82 ERA in 9.1 innings.
