Jameson Taillon will make his Toronto Blue Jays debut Wednesday against the Houston Astros.
Taillon was acquired by the Jays last week in a trade with the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs designated Taillon for assignment on July 27 and sent $5 million in cash to the Jays to help cover the rest of his $18 million salary for 2026. The Blue Jays will send a player to be named later or cash to the Cubs in the deal.
The 34-year-old has struggled in 15 starts so far this year for Chicago. He has a 5.92 ERA with a 1.35 WHIP and 68 strikeouts in 76.0 innings.
Taillon was born and raised in Florida but both his parents are Canadian. Taillon represented Canada as a 21-year-old at the 2013 World Baseball Classic and also played for Canada this past March.
Taillon has a career ERA of 3.99 in 239 appearances spread across 10 big-league seasons split between the Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Yankees and Cubs.
The veteran right-hander was one of several pickups by the Jays ahead of Monday’s trade deadline, in addition to pitchers Spencer Arrighetti and Jose Soriano.
