Tim Anderson is an ex-baseball player.
Speaking on a conference call with reporters to mark the fifth anniversary of the first Field of Dreams game, the former Chicago White Sox shortstop announced his retirement at the age of 33.
Anderson, 33, last played in the majors in 2025 with the Los Angeles Angels. After 31 appearances with the team, he was designated for assignment in late May. He did not play again.
A native of Tuscaloosa, AB, Anderson was the 17th overall pick of the 2013 MLB Amateur Draft by the Sox and made his big league debut in 2016. He would go on to appear in 895 games over eight seasons with the team, batting .282 in 3,622 at-bats with 1,021 hits, 98 home runs, 338 runs batted in and a .735 OPS.
Anderson won the American league batting title in 2019 after batting .335. An All-Star in both 2021 and 2022, he finished seventh in voting for AL Most Valuable Player in the COVID-shortened 2020 season. The award was won by teammate Jose Abreu. The White Sox declined their option on Anderson at the end of the 2023 season. He appeared in 65 games for the Miami Marlins in 2024.
Anderson finishes his career batting .276 with 1,088 hits, 98 HR, 350 RBI and a .714 OPS in 991 games across 10 seasons.
Internationally, Anderson was a member of the United States team at the 2023 World Baseball Classic.
The White Sox plan to honour Anderson in a pregame ceremony on Sept. 17 ahead of a game against the Detroit Tigers.
