CHICAGO -- White Sox catcher Edgar Quero is getting another chance with the big league club after yet another catching injury for Chicago as the team placed newcomer Joey Bart on the 10-day IL with a fracture in his left hand.
Bart is expected to miss a month.
Quero, 23, was called up from Triple-A Charlotte on Friday after Bart got hit by a pitch in Chicago's loss to the Boston Red Sox on Thursday night. Quero began the season as the starter behind the plate while Kyle Teel was recovering from a knee injury he sustained during the World Baseball Classic.
Keel played in 19 games before going down again, this time with an ankle ailment, necessitating Quero to be called back up. Quero was sent back down again after the team traded for Bart on Monday. Quero was hitting .194 with two home runs before his latest demotion but thinks he's starting to come around at the plate.
"Everyone knows it's been a pretty tough year for me," Quero said. "Last time I was up, I was feeling pretty good. I feel good right now too. I'm ready to go."
The White Sox also placed reliever Chris Murphy on the injured list with a flexor strain in his left arm. Righty David Sandlin was recalled to take his place on the roster. He had two stints with the big league club before his latest call-up and is 2-1 with a 6.05 ERA in 19⅓ innings for Chicago this season.
