RHP Woods Richardson joins Blue Jays, Dallas optioned to Triple-A Buffalo

Pitcher Simeon Woods Richardson has reported to the Toronto Blue Jays and will be active for Friday’s series opener against the Baltimore Orioles.

Woods Richardson, 25, was acquired from the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday in exchange for cash considerations. The Twins had designated him for assignment earlier this week.

The 6-foot-3 righty has struggled during the 2026 campaign, going 0-7 with a 7.74 earned run average. He went 7-4 in 22 starts last season with a 4.04 ERA.

Woods Richardson was originally acquired by the Blue Jays from the New York Mets in 2019, along with prospect Anthony Kay, for starting pitcher Marcus Stroman.

He spent three seasons in the Blue Jays’ minor league system before he was traded to the Twins, along with prospect Austin Martin, for starting pitcher Jose Berrrios.

Drafted in the second round by the Mets in the 2018 draft, Woods Richardson has a career 12-17 record with a 4.76 ERA over 61 starts in his career.

To make room for Woods Richardson, the Blue Jays optioned right-handed pitcher Chad Dallas to Triple-A Buffalo.

Dallas, 25, made his MLB debut on Thursday during the Blue Jays’ 7-2 win over the Atlanta Braves where he picked up the victory after pitching 3.2 innings, giving up one run on two hits.

Toronto sits tied for third place in the American League East with the Orioles, holding a 30-33 record as they open a three-game set in Toronto on Friday.
