Three-time AL MVP Aaron Judge will miss most or all of the rest of the regular season after the New York Yankees announced Friday they are placing him on the 10-day injured list because of a right calf strain.
New York said it will make the roster move Saturday. The placement could be backdated to Thursday, meaning it is possible Judge could return for New York's regular-season finale on Sept. 27.
Judge was pulled from Wednesday's loss to the Twins because of tightness in his lower right leg. An inning earlier, he had to run to the gap to track down a ball in the outfield, but he didn't show any sign of discomfort or slowness and later said he first felt tightness during the first inning.
Judge was 4-for-26 with 13 strikeouts and one extra-base hit in seven games since returning last week from a broken rib, which kept him out of the lineup for more than three months.
The Yankees, who have clinched at least a wild-card spot, trail the first-place Tampa Bay Rays by five games in the American League East entering Friday.
Judge is hitting .241 with 18 home runs and 41 RBIs in 66 games this season.
