Trey Yesavage took another step in his path back to the majors.
As the Toronto Blue Jays starter continues to work his way back from a shoulder impingement that sent him to the injured list, Yesavage made a rehab start at Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday.
The 6-foot-4 righty finished his day with 4.1 innings pitched and allowed three earned runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out five. He tossed 42-of-71 pitches for strikes and consistently sat 93-95 MPH on his fastball, consistent with his velocity from last season.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Yesavage could rejoin the Blue Jays if today’s rehab start went well.
Yesavage has made two previous rehab appearances for the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays of the Florida Complex League this season. He’s faced 23 batters and posted an earned run average of 8.44, allowing five earned runs on five hits over 5.1 innings of work. Yesavage has struck out nine and walked two.
The 22-year-old righty came out of the gates quickly on Wednesday afternoon and retired the first two batters he faced on seven pitches, including a strikeout of former top prospect Robert Hassell III. Yesavage would allow a solo home run to Dylan Crews as the Bisons fell behind 1-0, but he would quickly bounce back with another strikeout to end the inning.
The second inning would not get any better for Yesavage. Rochester would take a 2-1 lead on another solo homer, before he allowed two consecutive singles and another run to score on a double play.
Yesavage would pitch into the bottom of the fifth and be removed after allowing a pair of singles to Zack Short and Christian Franklin, leaving runners at first and third with one out. Jesse Hahn appeared in relief and stranded both runners.
Yesavage finished the 2025 regular season at 1-0 over three starts with a 3.21 earned run average and 1.429 WHIP over 14.0 innings of work. He struck out 16 batters and walked seven. In the playoffs, Yesavage made six starts, including two in the World Series. He was 3-1 with a 3.58 ERA and 1.048 WHIP over 27.2 innings pitched. Yesavage fanned 39, including 11 in an American League Divisional Series game against the New York Yankees, and walked 11.
