Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Trey Yesavage turned in four innings of one-run ball against the Minnesota Twins Sunday afternoon in his second start of the season.
It was a busy outing for Yesavage, who allowed four hits and three walks but was effective at limiting the damage. The lone run came on an RBI single by Victor Caratini to right field in the opening inning.
Yesavage struck out six Twins hitters and threw 52 of his 82 pitches for strikes.
The young righty had his back up against the wall in the third inning when the Twins loaded the bases with two outs, but Yesavage struck out Royce Lewis with a fastball on a 3-2 count to preserve the one-run deficit.
The Jays trailed 1-0 at the time of Yesavage’s departure despite Twins starter Joe Ryan having to come out of the game in the first inning with an elbow issue.
Yesavage went 5.1 shutout innings in his season debut this past Tuesday against the Boston Red Sox in Toronto. After Sunday’s outing, his ERA sits at 0.73 through two starts with nine total strikeouts in 9.1 innings.
The Blue Jays will head to Tampa to take on the Rays Monday evening after they wrap things up at Target Field in Minneapolis.
