Toronto Blue Jays righty Trey Yesavage made his second rehab appearance of the season on Thursday with the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays.
The Blue Jays took on the St. Lucie Mets with Yesavage coming on in relief of Brandon Barriera. The 22-year-old Yesavage threw 52 pitches, 34 of them for strikes, over 2.2 innings of work. He allowed four earned runs on four singles, striking out six and walking one.
A native of Pottstown, PA, Yesavage is working his way back from a right shoulder impingement that kept him sidelined from appearing in game action at all during spring training. He is currently on the 15-day injured list. Yesavage is among a number of Jays arms sidelined with starters Shane Bieber (elbow) and Jose Berrios (elbow) and reliever Yimi Garcia (elbow) also on the 15-day. Starter Cody Ponce (ACL) will miss the remainder of the regular season, while Bowden Francis (UCL) had season-ending surgery in March.
Yesavage was one of the major stories of a Blue Jays season in which the team made a surprise run to the World Series, losing in extra innings of Game 7 to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The team’s first-round pick of the 2024 MLB Amateur Draft out of East Carolina, Yesavage pitched at all five levels of the organization, making his big league debut in September.
Yesavage finished his regular season at 1-0 through three starts with a 3.21 earned run average and 1.429 WHIP over 14.0 innings of work. He struck out 16 batters and walked seven. In the playoffs, Yesavage made six starts, including two in the World Series. He was 3-1 with a 3.58 ERA and 1.048 WHIP over 27.2 innings pitched. Yesavage fanned 39, including 11 in an American League Divisional Series game against the New York Yankees, and walked 11.
The Blue Jays (5-7) open up a three-game set with the Minnesota Twins (7-6) on Friday at the Rogers Centre.
