The Toronto Raptors rounded out Darko Rajakovic’s bench for the upcoming season on Thursday. Among the new additions is Stephen Silas.
Silas, 53, served as the head coach of the Houston Rockets from 2020 to 2023, compiling a record of 59-177. He also has extensive experience as an assistant coach, spending time with the Detroit Pistons, Dallas Mavericks, Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers and Charlotte Hornets. Most recently, Silas had been the head coach of USA Basketball through the 2025 and 2027 FIBA AmeriCup windows.
A native of Boston, Silas is the son of three-time NBA champion and longtime head coach Paul Silas. Silas joins the returning Pat Delany and Jama Mahlalela on the team’s front bench. Matt Vest has also been promoted to assistant coach.
The team also announced the return of Jeremy Castleberry, who was a member of the staff during the team’s 2019 championship series. A college teammate of Kawhi Leonard, Castleberry spent the past five seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers. Prior to joining the Raptors in 2019, Castleberry spent five years within the San Antonio Spurs organization.
The Raptors open up their 2026-2027 training camp on Sept. 29. The team first sees preseason action on Oct. 3 in Quebec City against the Miami Heat. The Dinos make their regular-season bow on Oct. 21 at home to the Chicago Bulls.
