By signing his QO, Grimes will have a de facto no-trade clause and enter unrestricted free agency next summer.
A 25-year-old native of Houston, Grimes split last season between the Sixers and Dallas Mavericks, acquired ahead of the trade deadline in February. In a combined 75 games, Grimes averaged 14.6 points on .467 shooting, 4.3 boards and 3.0 assists over 26.8 minutes a night.
Originally taken with the 25th overall pick of the 2021 NBA Draft out of Kansas, Grimes has appeared in 243 games over four seasons with the Sixers, Mavs, Detroit Pistons and New York Knicks.
The Sixers open their preseason schedule on Thursday against the Knicks before starting their regular season on Oct. 22 at the Boston Celtics.
