Klay Thompson officially agreed to a two-year deal to join Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Miami Heat after clearing waivers on Sunday.
The deal, first reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania on Friday, is for $13 million and includes a player option in the second season, sources said.
Thompson, 36, became available after the Dallas Mavericks bought out the final year of his contract worth $17.5 million. Thompson had informed the Mavericks, who went 26-56 last year, that he wanted to play for a contender.
The prolific shooter finds himself in an ideal spot with the Heat, who made Thompson their top target after pulling off the blockbuster trade for Antetokounmpo.
Thompson is fourth on the all-time 3-pointers made list and heads into next season 74 3s behind Hall of Famer Ray Allen.
Thompson spent the first 13 seasons of his career with the Golden State Warriors before arriving in Dallas in a sign-and-trade deal in the summer of 2024. He was a five-time All-Star and four-time champion during his Golden State tenure.
