Washington Wizards rookie AJ Dybantsa is set to make his NBA regular-season debut Wednesday night against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Dybantsa, the first overall pick in June's NBA draft, has been upgraded to available after missing the first four games of the Wizards' season as he recovered from an ankle injury he suffered in Washington's preseason finale on Oct. 16.
The team put out a short social media post -- "no more waiting" -- on Wednesday in anticipation of Dybantsa's return. The 19-year old chimed in a short time later, stating simply, "it's time."
The Wizards are off to a 2-2 start to the season without the services of their highly touted rookie.
The Wizards also announced Wednesday that forward Justin Champagnie had a surgical procedure to repair a fracture in his right foot, an injury he sustained in Monday's game against the Charlotte Hornets. A timetable for his return was not immediately disclosed.
Dybantsa averaged 13 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and two steals in three preseason appearances, while shooting just over 42% from the floor.
The 6-foot-9 forward out of BYU averaged 25.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 51% from the field in his lone college season in Provo.
