Elgersma, 23, played four seasons with Laurier University in Canada’s U Sports and led his team to a Vanier Cup final in 2024.
The London, Ont., native was later invited to the 2025 Senior Bowl, becoming just the second Canadian university player to earn the honour and the first U Sports quarterback.
Elgersma went 4-for-7 on passing attempts with 57 passing yards in the game, highlighted by a 43-yard pass. His play helped him get the attention of the Green Bay Packers, who signed him to a tryout contract prior to the 2025 campaign.
He appeared in all three of the Packers’ pre-season games, recording 166 passing yards and a touchdown before he was released by the team in August.
The 6-foot-5 pivot was drafted 18th overall by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the 2025 CFL Draft.
