A day after some late-game heroics against the Dallas Cowboys, Gardner Minshew has been elevated to Arizona Cardinals starting quarterback, head coach Mike LaFleur announced on Monday.

Minshew, 30, made his first appearance of the season on Sunday in the Cards’ 33-30 overtime victory, spelling Jacoby Brissett. He threw for 188 yards on 17-for-23 passing and three touchdowns as the Cardinals overturned 17-3 and 24-10 deficits.

A native of Flowood, MS, Minshew is in his eighth NFL season out of Washington State and his first with the Cardinals. He’s previously spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs, Las Vegas Raiders, Indianapolis Colts, Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars. Minshew was a Pro Bowler in 2023 with the Colts.

For his career, Minshew has appeared in 64 games, starting 47 of them. He’s thrown for 12,175 yards on 1,117-for-1,765 passing with 71 TDs to 35 interceptions. Minshew has another five rushing touchdowns.

The Cardinals (3-5) return to action on Sunday with an NFC West divisional battle against the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks (4-3).
