KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Chiefs rookie cornerback Mansoor Delane is on track to play in Sunday night’s game against the Indianapolis Colts, coach Andy Reid said Wednesday.
“There’s a pretty good chance he’ll be back out there,” Reid said of Delane. “Yeah. He’s going to practice [Wednesday].”
Delane aggravated his right shoulder injury three snaps into Monday’s win over the Denver Broncos. It occurred seconds after the first highlight of his career, when he played perfect coverage on wide receiver Courtland Sutton to intercept quarterback Bo Nix’s intermediate pass. Delane’s 5-yard return ended when he stumbled and fell to the turf, landing on his right shoulder. He did not return to the game.
Delane missed the Chiefs’ mandatory minicamp in June because he sustained a hairline fracture in his scapula, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Reid said Wednesday that X-rays and CT and MRI scans on Delane’s shoulder were negative.
The Chiefs traded up three spots with the Cleveland Browns, moving from the ninth pick to the sixth, to select Delane on the opening draft of the NFL draft in April.
“Delane’s interception there, the one play that he had, he did a nice job with that,” Reid said after Monday’s game. “I mean, that was a great job, [a] great way to start the game.”
The Chiefs placed linebacker Cooper McDonald, who sustained a right knee injury in Monday’s game, on injured reserve. McDonald, a second-year player, will miss at least four games.
“We’ll just see where he’s at after we get to that point,” Reid said of McDonald.
