Colts QB Richardson Sr. charged with possession of marijuana

INDIANAPOLIS -- Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. faces a misdemeanor charge for marijuana possession following a traffic stop earlier this month in Carmel, Indiana, court records show.

According to an affidavit provided to ESPN by the Hamilton County prosecutor's office, Richardson was pulled over by a Carmel patrol officer on Oct. 12 over questions about his car's registration.

The officer, according to his statements, observed the smell of marijuana in the car. According to the affidavit, Richardson admitted to the officer that he had smoked marijuana in the vehicle to avoid smoking it at home around his children.

Richardson was asked to exit the vehicle and was detained in handcuffs, the documents state, while officers searched his Dodge Charger. Officers stated they found a small amount of marijuana and 500-milligram THC-infused gummies in the glove compartment. The items were confiscated by police.

Richardson ultimately was allowed to leave without being arrested but received a citation for an expired registration and a summons for possession of marijuana.

The prosecutor's office officially filed the charge Monday, according to court records. The case is currently scheduled for a bench trial on Jan. 4.

"We are aware of the situation involving Anthony Richardson and are currently gathering additional information," the Colts said in a statement. "We will have no further comment at this time."
