ASHBURN, Va., -- Washington Commanders running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt won't play Monday against the San Francisco 49ers because of a groin injury, coach Dan Quinn said Saturday.
Croskey-Merritt did not practice all week because of the injury, which he had been dealing with entering Sunday's 27-27 tie against the visiting New York Giants in Week 5. He managed 11 carries for 82 yards but had just one carry after the third quarter.
He missed the final two preseason games because of a groin injury. Quinn called the latest setback a reinjury.
Croskey-Merritt leads Washington with 239 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
Without him, the Commanders will rely on Rachaad White and Austin Ekeler. White has been dealing with a shoulder issue that caused him to be limited Friday after being a full participant a day earlier. Ekeler, who signed before Week 4, has been limited in practice with a chest issue.
Jeremy McNichols will travel with the team to San Francisco and could be activated off injured reserve ahead of Monday's game. McNichols started the season on IR because of a quad injury suffered this summer.
Quinn did not say if wide receiver Stefon Diggs would play after he missed the Giants game with a hamstring injury. Diggs was limited in practice Friday. If he plays, it would be the first time, Diggs, wide receiver Terry McLaurin and quarterback Jayden Daniels have been on the field together since Week 2.
It's also possible the Commanders will return cornerback Trey Amos and safety Nick Cross. Amos has been on injured reserve because of an ankle injury, but he and Cross, who hasn't played since Week 2 with an internal injury, were full participants in practice.
