Buffalo Bills running back James Cook wasn’t surprised by his team’s overwhelming success on the ground in Sunday’s 26-7 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The two-time Pro Bowler says the team planned to attack the Steelers’ cornerback corps going into the game.
“Coming into the game, we [were] leaning on them,” Cook told Syracuse.com’s Matt Parrino. “They’re one of the worst tackling corner [groups] in the NFL. Just try to get the ball on the edge. We did a pretty good job today.”
The Bills finished their game with 249 yards rushing with Cook, who is second in the league this season, accounting for 144 of them. It was the worst rush defence performance by the Steelers since 1975 when they gave up 310 yards on the ground to, coincidentally, the Bills in a 30-21 loss on Sept. 28.
“I’ve never seen a team run the same play as much as they ran it today and have as much success as they had,” Steelers defensive end T.J. Watt said after the game. “I mean, I’m out of words for it.”
The Bills (8-4) head home to host the Cincinnati Bengals (4-8) on Sunday. The Steelers (6-6), meanwhile, will look to regroup ahead of a massive AFC North showdown on the road against the Baltimore Ravens (6-6) also on Sunday.
