The Saskatchewan Roughriders added Bailey Zappe, a quarterback with three years of National Football League experience, to their negotiation list on Tuesday.
The 27-year-old Zappe is currently on the practice squad of the NFL’s New York Jets; he has not appeared on an active roster in the NFL since the 2024 season, where he made one start for the Cleveland Browns.
Zappe was originally drafted in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft (137th overall) by the New England Patriots, and he spent two seasons in New England before joining the Browns. He has also spent time on the practice squads of the Kansas City Chiefs (two stints) and Browns (one stint).
Over 15 career NFL games (nine starts), Zappe has a record of 4-5 with 2,223 yards passing and 12 touchdowns against 14 interceptions.
Zappe joins presumptive regular-season starter Geno Smith in the Jets QB room in the preseason alongside rookie Cade Klubnik and second-year man Brady Cook. NFL teams tend to carry two active quarterbacks on the gameday roster and one quarterback on the practice squad.
Zappe, a native of Victoria, Tex., played four college seasons with Houston Christian and Western Kentucky before he was taken in the draft.
