It will be Joe Fagnano under centre for the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday Night Football.
Head coach Jesse Minter confirmed the undrafted rookie will be healthy enough to make his first career start at home to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
“We’ll be starting Joe at quarterback this week, on Thursday,” Minter told reporters on Tuesday. “Again, an opportunity, man, we’re fired up about, excited to play in front of our fans against a really good team.”
Fagnano, 25, made his surprise debut in Sunday’s 36-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Starter Lamar Jackson, making his return after a three-game absence, dislocated his thumb on his first pass attempt of the game when his follow-through caught the hand of Greg Rousseau, who was attempting to block the pass. His season appears to be over. Backup QB Tyler Huntley would spell Jackson, but he, too, would leave the game injured with turf toe. Huntley will not dress on Thursday.
In his limited action on Sunday, Fagnano threw for 91 yards on 10-for-21 passing with an interception. He, too, appeared to be injured. Fagnano was seen with a wrap around his ankle when the defence was on the field.
The Ravens (4-4) have little margin for error moving forward if they intend to avoid missing the playoffs for consecutive seasons for the first time since 2017.
