The Detroit Lions released a statement from Jack Campbell on Wednesday.
The 26-year-old linebacker remains hospitalized following a scary injury in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 19-15 victory over the Minnesota Vikings.
Campbell says he’s regained full movement in his lower body and is now regaining movement in his upper body.
“I’m incredibly encouraged by the progress I’ve made in such a short period of time,” Campbell said. “I have full movement in my lower body, and I’m continuing to make progress with movement in my upper body. I know there’s still work ahead, but I remain very optimistic. I’m taking things one day at a time, staying positive, and focusing on getting better.”
The Iowa product was injured making a tackle on the first snap of the final quarter. He was tended to on the field before being stretchered off the field and taken to hospital. Campbell was playing in his fourth NFL season.
Campbell wanted to acknowledge those who provided him with the initial treatment on the field.
“I especially want to thank the athletic trainers and medical personnel who responded and cared for me on the field,” Campbell wrote. “I know those were difficult moments, and I’m incredibly grateful for the professionalism, compassion, and care you showed me. The way you handled everything and looked after me when I needed it most is something I’ll never forget. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.”
A native of Cedar Falls, IA, Campbell was originally selected with the 18th overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft. After a season in which he recorded 176 tackles, including nine for losses, three forced fumbles and 5.0 sacks, Campbell was named a first-team All-Pro in 2025.
The Lions (5-2) visit the Miami Dolphins (1-6) on Sunday.
