The New York Giants have been a pleasant surprise, leading the weak NFC East with a 3-1-1 record through five weeks. They have a win over the Dallas Cowboys and a tie against the Washington Commanders, setting themselves up in a good spot in the division.

After starting quarterback Jaxson Dart went down with a knee injury in the season opener, and backup QB Jameis Winston struggled in his first outing, it looked like more of the same for Big Blue, who have one playoff appearance over their past nine seasons.

But the team has bounced back, and have gone three weeks in a row without a loss. At the heart of it has been hotshot wide receiver Malik Nabers, who is looking healthy and dangerous after a slow start to the season.

Nabers, 23, played just four games last season before suffering a torn ACL that ended his sophomore campaign early.

The third-year player, who was taken with the sixth-overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, had 96 yards receiving through the season’s first three games. He’s spoken about how the surgically repaired knee is a constant presence in his preparation, but has looked every part the star receiver he was in his rookie season the past two weeks.

Nabers caught six passes for 112 yards and a touchdown in the Giants 36-24 win over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 4, and built on that with a huge day a week ago, where he caught 11 passes for 121 yards and a touchdown against the Commanders.

Nabers enters this week’s matchup against the New Orleans Saints with 29 catches for 329 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The Saints have been good against the pass through the first third of the season, ranking 11th in passing yards allowed (212.2 per game).

Puka Nacua’s season got off to a rocky start, as the fourth-year wideout suffered a groin injury in a blowout loss to the San Francisco 49ers in a game he caught just five passes.

He missed two games afterwards, but he has put on a show in the two games since returning to the lineup.

In Week 4, Nacua caught nine passes for 125 yards and rushed for a touchdown, and in Week 5 against the Buffalo Bills, Nacua set a Monday Night Football record with 17 catches for 138 yards and a touchdown.

Nacua owns the NFL record for most catches through 47 games with 344, and has the NFL record for yards per game (96.3, minimum 200 career catches).

In five career games against the Cardinals, Nacua is a perfect 5-0 and has 35 catches for 425 yards and three touchdowns.

Arizona’s defence has struggled mightily slowing opposing passing attacks so far this year, sitting 25th in passing yardage and 30th in passing touchdowns allowed.

Detroit Lions wide receivers Jameson Williams and Amon-Ra St. Brown combined for 113 yards and two touchdowns receiving last week.
