This week, RedZone will help keep an eye on a pair of tight ends out of the AFC West that represent the new guard and the old at the position.
Brock Bowers - Las Vegas Raiders vs. New York Jets - 1pm ET
Brock Bowers has been a premier player at the tight end position since he was drafted by the Las Vegas Raiders with the 13th-overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
He was named First-Team All-Pro in his rookie campaign after catching 112 passes - a single-season record for any TE, rookie or not - for 1,194 yards and five touchdowns.
The only thing keeping Bowers from truly dominating since has been injuries - he missed five games a season ago and missed the first two this year with a minor knee ailment.
Bowers has caught at least six passes in four of five games played this season and has averaged 91.0 yards per game on the young campaign with three touchdowns.
New Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak, who led the team to a 3-0 record out of the gate before dropping their past four games, was especially wowed by Bowers, even after only seeing him work in off-season training activities in May.
“He’s kind of a football robot, in a good way,” Kubiak said at the time. “He’s a football robot from heaven ... He’s a Cadillac out there. We got to get the most out of Brock. Wherever he goes, he’s been successful — in college, in high school, whoever’s coached him. So just can’t say enough great things about him. Love his work ethic. He’s a standard-bearer.”
Bowers’ 176 receptions over his first two seasons are the NFL record for most by a tight end in that span, and his 1,874 yards in his first two campaigns rank third in NFL history at the position.
Bowers and the Raiders’ offence take aim at a New York Jets’ defence that allowed 28 points in a loss to the lowly Miami Dolphins in Week 7, giving Bowers an opportunity to put on a show.

Travis Kelce - Kansas City Chiefs vs. Denver Broncos - 4:25pm ET
If Bowers is the future face of the league at the tight end position, he has to take that crown from somebody - and Travis Kelce has certainly fit that bill over his illustrious career.
The future Hall of Famer has shown he can still be a force in Kansas City’s offence in year 14 at age 37. He caught nine passes for 101 yards and a touchdown in the Chiefs’ 33-30 overtime victory over the Indianapolis Colts back in Week 2.
In a 31-10 romp over the Denver Broncos in the season opener, Kelce caught three passes for 71 yards, including a 59-yard catch-and-run early in the contest.
“Kelce, he dusted it off, right?” Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said to reporters after that victory. “Pretty good for an old man that people look cross-eyed at.”
Kelce is one of the most decorated players ever to play the position - he is third among tight ends in career receptions (1,104), second in receiving yardage (13,345) and is fifth among tight ends in receiving touchdowns (84).
Through six games this year, Kelce has put up modest numbers (by his lofty standards) - 24 catches for 343 yards and two touchdowns. Even with a successful career that includes three Super Bowl titles, a successful podcast with his brother, Jason, and a happy marriage to the biggest pop star in the world, Taylor Swift, Kelce is adamant he has no interest in hanging up his cleats yet.
In an interview with Chris Berman on Good Morning America before the season began, Kelce said he wants “to keep playing until the wheels fall off” and said he still thinks he can contribute to a winning team.
“I still have the desire to go out there and compete, and I still think I can compete at a high level,” the Chiefs star said. “I love this game so much that I’m not ready to go into that next phase yet.”
Kelce gets another chance to turn back the clock against the Broncos in a crucial divisional showdown on Sunday afternoon.
