The Arizona Cardinals have hit the pause button on Jeremiyah Love’s rookie season.
ESPN’s Ian Rapoport reports the team is set to place the running back on injured reserve and expect him to miss four to five weeks with a high-ankle sprain.
Rapoport notes this is a different ankle sprain from the one that Love dealt with earlier in the season.
Love, 21, missed the second half of the Cards’ thrilling come-from-behind overtime win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. Love was favouring his ankle after a run in the first quarter and was seen in the medical tent. He returned to the sideline, but then exited for the locker room before the end of the half before officially being ruled out for the remainder of the game in the third quarter.
A native of University City, MO, Love was taken with the third overall selection of the 2026 NFL Draft out of Notre Dame. In six games this season, Love has rushed for 268 yards on 76 carries with a touchdown.
The Cardinals (3-5) visit the Seattle Seahawks (4-4) on Sunday. Tyler Allgeier, who rushed for 147 yards in Sunday’s victory, will continue to shoulder the load for the Cardinals in the backfield. Bam Knight could also see additional carries.
