Report: Darnold (hip) to miss at least one game

Sam Darnold won’t be ready for the Seattle Seahawks’ Week 2 date with the Arizona Cardinals, but the 29-year-old quarterback might not miss as much time as originally feared.

ESPN’s Ian Rapoport reports Darnold is expected back sooner than later after picking up a hip injury in his team’s 13-10 season-opening win over the New England Patriots.

Darnold left the game on what was just the Seahawks’ second drive of the game. On his fifth snap, Darnold was sacked from behind by Dre’mont Jones and landed awkwardly on the turf. He immediately left the game and was eventually ruled out for its remainder.

Backup Drew Lock spelled Darnold and helped the Seahawks overcome a 10-0 deficit to win the Super Bowl rematch. Pats quarterback Drake Maye was picked off three times in the loss.

Rapoport notes that the Seahawks have 17 days in between Wednesday night’s game and their Week 3 contest with the Washington Commanders.

A native of Capistrano Beach, CA, Darnold is in his ninth NFL season out of USC and his second with the Seahawks. A two-time Pro Bowler, Darnold threw for 202 yards on 19-for-38 passing and a touchdown in the Seahawks’ 29-13 win over the Pats in February’s Super Bowl LX.
