Cameron Jordan’s 16th NFL season might get underway a little later than planned.
New Orleans Saints head coach Kellen Moore acknowledged on Tuesday that the veteran defensive end could “miss a bit of time,” even into the regular season, with a hamstring injury incurred last week.
Jordan, 37, has played the entirety of his career with the Saints.
“It could possibly get into the season, but you never know,” Moore told reporters. “So these things, you’ve just got to have some patience with it, let it take its course and we’ll collect more and more information as we go.”
Originally taken with the 24th overall selection of the 2011 NFL Draft out of Cal, Jordan has played in all but two games over the course of his career. He missed a game in 2021 due to testing positive for COVID and another in 2022 with a fractured orbital bone.
An eight-time Pro Bowler, Jordan has recorded 763 tackles, three interceptions and 17 forced fumbles in 243 career games. His 132.0 sacks are 22nd-most all-time and most among currently rostered players.
The Saints open up their preseason campaign on Saturday with a visit from the Jacksonville Jaguars. The regular season gets underway on Sept. 13 with a road game against the Detroit Lions. The Saints are looking to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2020.
