RENTON, Wash. -- The Seattle Seahawks activated running back Zach Charbonnet off the physically unable to perform list Thursday, an expected move amid his comeback from a torn ACL.

It's not certain that Charbonnet, who is only eight months removed from surgery, will make his season debut Sunday night when the Seahawks host the Kansas City Chiefs at Lumen Field. Coach Mike Macdonald said earlier this week that it's a "possibility" that he plays "in some capacity."

"Just taking it a day at a time," Charbonnet said Thursday in his first comments to reporters since he was injured in January. "But whenever I'm out there, it's going to be special and I'm just going to be happy to get back out there."

The Seahawks on Thursday also placed second-year tight end Elijah Arroyo on injured reserve. A source told ESPN's Adam Schefter that Arroyo, a 2025 second-round pick who caught one pass for 17 yards in six games this season, is having season-ending surgery to repair a shoulder injury he suffered last week in a loss to the Denver Broncos.

The Seahawks listed Charbonnet as a full participant in practice Wednesday. He had been listed as limited on the first eight injury reports released by the team since it designated him to return to practice Oct. 1. Thursday marked the 21-day deadline to move Charbonnet to the 53-man roster.

In a co-starting role last season alongside Kenneth Walker III, Charbonnet rushed for 730 yards and a team-high 12 touchdowns. He tore his left ACL in Seattle's divisional-round win over the San Francisco 49ers on Jan. 17 and had surgery Feb. 12.

Charbonnet said this was "around" the time that he was aiming to return.

"I'm feeling pretty good," Charbonnet said. "Just going a day at a time. Seeing how it adapts with picking up practice and stuff like that."

With Charbonnet beginning the season on PUP and rookie first-round pick Jadarian Price missing the last three games with a chest injury, Seattle is averaging 107.2 rushing yards per game and 3.9 yards per carry, both of which rank 18th. Their backfield trio of Price, Emanuel Wilson and George Holani have combined to lose four fumbles.

Price, who was placed on IR in Week 4, has to miss at least one more game.
